    Energy Saving LED Lights

The lighting industry has seen significant changes brought by technology in the recent years.

A fine innovation of design and functionality, the LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology offers quality illumination while consuming much lesser energy than traditional lighting. This technology has emerged as one of the most energy-efficient solutions and will be used extensively in the forthcoming years because of the numerous benefits they offer such as long life, low carbon emissions and many more.

Here are the major advantages of LED lighting.

Energy-efficient

LEDs are an energy-efficient method of lighting – they normally have a 90% efficiency, which means 90% of their energy is turned into light rather than heat. On the other hand, Incandescent bulbs convert most of the bulb’s energy to heat rather than light. Having no warm-up time, the lights reach maximum brightness instantly, unlike CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) which take several minutes to light up.

As usage of LED lighting releases less heat, this effectively reduces the air conditioning load within a building, thus saving indirectly on electricity meter bills.

This new generation of lamps shine brighter, last longer with minimal power consumption. Switching to LEDs can substantially reduce electricity bills and utilize resources optimally.

Long-lasting

LEDs don’t burn-out fast unlike traditional bulbs. They normally have a long operating lifespan of 40,000 to 50,000 light hours, whereas a typical incandescent bulb lasts only about 1,000 hours, while a CFL lasts 8,000 to 10,000 hours. This longevity aspect can save operating and maintenance costs.

LEDs having no filaments or glass enclosures, are breakage resistant and largely immune to vibrations and other impacts. Hence, they also classify as a low maintenance lighting system.

Temperature-withstanding

LEDs are made with very sturdy materials and components and are physically robust to withstand harsh weather conditions and extreme temperature fluctuations. This is primarily the reason for their wide adoption in outdoor signages and external applications.

LEDs are a perfect application for extreme cold environments, such as cold storage spaces. The incandescent or CFL lights are affected by low temperatures, but LEDs are reliable even when the mercury drops.

Eco-friendly

LEDs not just offer high light output, but also eliminate a tremendous number of manhours as it does not involve the changing of bulbs frequently – thus saving money on replacement costs.

Another plus point, LED lights do not contain toxic elements such as mercury or lead unlike CFLs. LEDs being 100 % recyclable, their use would dramatically reduce the carbon footprint in the environment. With the universal trend towards going green and home efficiency, LEDs are gaining popularity as a green alternative.
