Welcome to Expo 2020, Welcome to UAE

The D-Day has dawned, and I am excited about my first visit to Expo 2020 when the doors open to the public tomorrow -October 1, 2021. Electric Way has had the privilege to be at the construction site on more than one occasion over the past many years as a supplier of cables, lighting, electrical equipment, and accessories. It is with great pride that I, like all businessmen of UAE, look forward to the upcoming season of good fortune.

Way back in 2013, Dubai won the right to host the World Expo in 2020 beating bids from Russia, Brazil and Turkey. Ever since the UAE has been relentlessly working toward shaping this magnanimous event. Even the pandemic could not deter our enthusiasm. We look forward to welcoming eager participants and curious visitors from over 191 countries to the various country pavilions exhibiting national pride and progress. The unique platform would attract investments, forge agreements, and promote international cooperation.

Running 173 days with 60 live shows daily, Expo 2020 is expected to attract 25 million visitors from countries outside UAE. Interestingly this is the largest proportion of international visitors in the history of the Expos. It is expected to open doors for new market segments, channel various income streams and breathe new aspirations in the region.

I know that a lot has been said about the event, but as it draws closer, I take this opportunity to reiterate the details of the Expo for the benefit of customers, suppliers, and business associates who plan to visit Dubai between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.

Technology at the heart of the event

A never-seen-before event, state-of-the-art technologies have been extensively used to augment visitor experience so that they carry fond memories of Dubai post the event. A huge dome at the centerstage operating a 360-degree screen stands 200 feet tall with a diameter of around 500 feet and is expected to hold thousands of visitors within.

Billions of dirhams have been invested to build a robust infrastructure that includes the venue, transport lines, infrastructural set-up and restaurants. Smart-city technologies have been deployed throughout the site with nifty cloud-based operating systems to connect and monitor buildings. The entire site is under hi-tech video surveillance, smart sensors and security systems. With super-fast Wi-Fi networks, intelligent analytics monitoring and energy-efficient systems, the site is the smartest and most connected site on Earth. The event is bound to amaze the world with UAE’s advances in technological and infrastructural building capacities.

UAE pavilion offers a preview of the future of commercial aviation, reframing the role of technology in the next 50 years. The China pavilion would be flaunting smart EVs and AI technologies together with CRH simulated driving and intelligent vehicles. The Indian pavilion is a technology marvel showcasing vibrant Indian culture and its capabilities as a global economic hub. The US pavilion will exhibit hyperloop simulators, virtual reality, wearable exoskeletons and 3D-printed organs.

Expo 2020 brings the entire world to Dubai and is going to create a platform for business, networking, innovation, art and more! Several businesses such as construction, hospitality, tourism and telecom would immensely benefit from the 6-month duration. The world will be astonished by UAE’s vast potential to host several nations and its government’s organizing capabilities.
